The Workplace Pledge and Support

Making Suicide Everyone’s Business.

  • 700,000 deaths by suicide globally every year (WHO, 2024).

  • 14 million suicide attempts globally every year (WHO, 2024).

  • 6,000+ deaths by suicide in the UK every year (ONS, 2023).

  • Three quarters of suicides are men (ONS, 2022).

  • 17 million working days lost annually in the UK at a cost of £56 billion to businesses (HSE, 2023).

  • On average 136 people are affected by each suicide (Kennedy et al, 2020).


What are we asking?

Your organisation to make a simple pledge:

  • To support the reduction and removal of stigma around mental health in the workplace

  • Support employees with opportunities to access support and feel able to do so

  • Increase awareness of suicide and prevention

  • Improve and do our best to save lives

  • Make suicide awareness, support and prevention a workplace priority

  • Support a trauma-informed approach

Next Steps

  • The national Baton of Hope team are launching this pledge, combined of three levels to offer.

  • To support the pledge locally we will look at a range of training packages to support workplaces

  • There is always the offer of FREE RESOURCES, these will be expanding over the coming year to offer a more tailored workplace approach.
